We believe that a Pre-K program should be holistic, teaching the whole child: spiritual, physical, emotional, social, cognitive, expressive music and art, language and literacy.

We also believe that children learn best with hands-on activities and a familiar schedule. Our curriculum, lesson plans and daily schedule reflects this philosophy.

Four and five year-olds are dynamic and on the move—ready and eager to learn more about God’s world and how they, as individuals, fit into it.

Our focus in the Pre-K room is kindergarten readiness. It is our goal to provide a safe and loving environment for children to succeed in all areas of readiness. Curriculum for this age must be exciting and challenging, as well as supportive for each child’s learning style. There will be a special emphasis on literacy and phonemic[phonetic?] awareness to prepare the child for reading. They will have opportunities to work independently and in a group.

It is our purpose to connect the Pre-K child to Jesus. To teach the child to live in a Christian community with manners and to learn and practice moral and spiritual truths, which are learned from Bible stories, and modeled in our teachers.

Our teachers are nurturing, experience and trained in the area of Pre-kindergarten development and age-appropriate activities.

Rhonda Smith

My name is Rhonda Smith, welcome to my world of four and five year olds.

I have lived in Vancouver for 38 years. I have 5 children from 13 years to 32. I have 11 grandchildren from 3 to 19 years of age.

When I am not at work, I like to spend time with my grandchildren and I enjoy scrap booking for them and putting together portfolios for my Pre-K class.

I have worked in Preschool/Childcare since 1988. I have taught Pre-K at Grace since 1991.

I have attended workshops for early childhood and have a 20-hour “STARS” certification for the State of Washington.

I am so blessed to have the opportunity to get your child ready for kindergarten and to be a part of a healthy Christian start in their school journey.

I look forward to this school year with new ideas and renewed passion for instructing the Pre-Kindergarten child.
